Leonia profile

Living in Leonia

Leonia is a somewhat small borough located in the state of New Jersey. With a population of 9,245 people and two associated neighborhoods, Leonia is the 209th largest community in New Jersey.

Housing costs in Leonia are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in New Jersey.

Also of interest is that Leonia has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Of important note, Leonia is also a borough of artists. Leonia has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Leonia’s character.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 12.47% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Leonia is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The borough’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Leonia’s overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

One downside of living in Leonia, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 31.44 minutes every day commuting to work. It is, however, a pedestrian-friendly borough. Many of its neighborhoods are dense enough and have amenities close enough together that people find it feasible to get around on foot. In addition, local public transit is widely used. For those who would prefer to avoid driving entirely and leave their car at home, it may be an option to use the transit instead.

Despite being a small borough, Leonia has a lot of people using the bus to get to and from work every day. Most of these people on the bus are using it to get to good jobs in other cities.

Do you like to read, write and learn? If you move to Leonia, you'll likely find that many of your neighbors like to as well. Leonia is one of the more educated communities in America, with a full 61.06% of its adults having a college degree or even advanced degree, compared to a national average across all communities of 21.84%.

The per capita income in Leonia in 2022 was $62,031, which is upper middle income relative to New Jersey, and wealthy relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $248,124 for a family of four.

Leonia is an extremely ethnically-diverse borough. The people who call Leonia home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Leonia residents report their race to be Asian, followed by White. Leonia also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 23.13% of the borough’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Leonia include Italian, German, Irish, English, and Polish.
