Galveston is a larger medium-sized coastal city (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of Texas. With a population of 57,186 people and 24 constituent neighborhoods, Galveston is the 42nd largest community in Texas.
Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Galveston is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Galveston is a city of professionals, service providers, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Galveston who work in office and administrative support jobs (13.46%), sales jobs (10.56%), and healthcare (9.92%).
The city is also nautical, which means that parts of Galveston are somewhat historic and bounded by the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.
One of the benefits of Galveston is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 19.07 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.
Like elsewhere in America, most people in Galveston use a private automobile to get to work. But notably, a substantial number of Galveston's citizens do make use of public transit in their daily commute, primarily riding the bus. This helps more people get to work with less air pollution, and require fewer highways to get them there.
