Turon is a very small town located in the state of Kansas. With a population of 1,175 people and just one neighborhood, Turon is the 183rd largest community in Kansas. Much of the housing stock in Turon was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Turon is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Turon is a town of managers, sales and office workers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Turon who work in farm management (17.53%), office and administrative support jobs (12.34%), and sales jobs (7.51%).
In addition, many people in Turon have jobs in agriculture, more so than in most other communities in America. As a result, you will see quite a number of farms around town.
A relatively large number of people in Turon telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 18.12% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
As is often the case in a small town, Turon doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
The percentage of adults in Turon who are college-educated is close to the national average for all communities of 14.96%: 14.76% of the adults in Turon have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
